There needs to be a shooting range in Dekalb County. I find it crazy every metro atl county has a civilian range except for dekalb. I'm sick of Dekalb Co, I told my wife the next house won't be in dekalb. What needs to happen to open one in dekalb? If my money ever gets right and I'm still in this county; I will try to open one. I'd have 10$ for the 1st hour for non GFL holders and 8$ for GFL holders. Pistol and rifle range. Ladies free on fridays. Active and former military discounts. NRA discounts, GCO discounts, you know maybe a 1$ off. I would hire guys from this forum to work and supervise customers etc. I thinks its a great idea worth going for, hopefully a group or person can try to make this happen. I definitely would if I had the funds. O yea, there would need to be a FFL also for the sale of firearms.

Futher thought about this led me to thinking about how I could keep illegal guns out. I know a certain element of our people just won't do right when it comes to guns. I could just open to GFL holders, military, and LEO. But what about those law abiding non gfl holders. I guess I could say 21 and older only. It will just be a risk you take, I'd probaly have to have security walking around armed with AR 15s and AK 47s. Could have an Outdoor and Indoor range on the same premises possibly. Maybe the place would need a security gate to pass through where driver licenses could be checked before your even allowed on the property. Just ideas .

Theres actually one range in Dekalb, but it belongs to the DKPD. They are open to the general public around one Friday a month during regular business hours. I've never shot there, but it has plenty of lanes and appears to be a great place to shoot.

May wife does zoning work mainly in Dekalb and all I can say is GOOD LUCK getting a permit for a gun range in Dekalb or Fulton county for that manner.

Yea, thats weak. Once a month! Thats pathetic. Along with the ignorance of firearm laws by DKPD this just makes me sick. Does Dekalb offer firearm training classes for its citizens that can legally carry? I'm putting together a little letter/email encouraging it.

To build a DECENT range from the ground up would cost about $4 million. To build a GREAT one, $7 mill. The profit margin is low, liability high and hours long. Not to mention the near impossibility of getting the zoming and licensing, you'd be better off trying to buy an existing facility but there are none.

Why reinvent the wheel? No other range worries about these issues and from a civilian new shooter and female perspective you would probably scare away more business then you would earn with the paramilitary security force.

I don't know of any range in any high crime areas either. I just call a spade a spade. I know what I've seen in my neighborhood. I know of one guy now applying for a GWL and is trafficking drugs cause he still has a clean record. (Not been caught yet). There have been break ins in several pawn shops that sell guns in dekalb and I personally know one gun dealer that has shot and killed 2 armed robbers in his business. If there isn't a range in dekalb it might be more than just zoning, licencing and business insurance being too high is probaly the reason.

County commissioners ain't signing off on no range in Dekalb unless you come with influence and deep pockets. If one were to open it would most likely be in North Dekalb. Thats where Ellis want to send all the money anyway.

Master Gunman is just outside Dekalb in Gwinnett. That whole area is Gwinnett.
