I need to get a good fixed blade knife. The use would be all-purpose, utilitarian, primary for a survival-type situation. The knife would not need to be concealed. What's good?

My first pick would be a RAT RC-5. That, my friend, is a real SERE knife, and is as good as it gets at any price point IMO.

A close second is the Gerber LMF II.

That RAT RC-5 looks like a well-designed tool.

I just purchased a new KA-BAR for my main survival knife. LOL If its good enough for the Military it's good enough for me.

+1 on the RAT RC-5.

I also just picked up a Kershaw Military Boot knife for a class (that was canceled. :( ) I really like it as well.
