I really like both of these wheel guns, but I need to make a decision on one. I have seen several great deals on blued GP100's and would have jumped on them if I haven't been broke. My heart though lies with the 686. In a perfect world, I would have a 4' 7-shot 686, but they are hard to find. The Ruger GP100 is priced lower and is more common. They are still a quality made gun. Which one and why would you choose?

I prefer the 686. I really like the one with the 2" barrel. The last time I seen one was 2 years ago in a gun store outside of Philly. For some reason they are hard to get a hold of due to their popularity. I handled both the S&W & the Ruger. The S&W feels more balanced to me. The recoil is about the same to me with Winchester FMJ ammo. The only thing that sucks is like you said; the price of the 686.

What about a eight-shot Model 627 Smith & Wesson revolver with moon clips ?

The 4" 686 is the way to go, I checked out the 7 shot last week at a local shop. I love the wheel guns, especially the 686, simply do not have to worry about jams.

The 627 is nice, but well out of my league. I think a 686 would look nice riding on my hip or siting on my nightstand.

I may add the Ruger later, it is on my list.

My Ruger KGP-141 (4" Stainless) is my first gun and first love. The Smiths are nice but for less money you get a TANK and that satin SS sure looks purrrrty!

Not a bad deal, not a bad price either, I like the 686 but this is not bad.

Think I missed the deal. It's marked SPM. I was fourth to put in an offer.

Although I am fond of the GP series, the 686+ is too sweet to pass on, especially the 4 inch model. Now, if it were the normal 686 v GP, I'd probably go for the Ruger. For reasons that don't make a lot of sense, the one round extra capacity of the + seems like a good reason to be swayed.

Too bad they didn't make a 586 in seven shot configuration. Wow, wouldn't that be something?

I have a 4" 686 and love it. Funny though, it could've just as well been a GP100. The Ruger was less expensive, but the 686 is a work of art.

Right now I'm wavering on a blued GP100 for $400. If he come down $50 and meet me closer to ATL, we may have a deal. I hate paying more for something that sold for less a few days ago.

I've shot the Ruger GP100 with Pachmayer grips on it and it felt real good in my hand shooting factory .357 loads. I've owned the S&W model 19 [just sold mine last September] and before it, the model 29 [.44 magnum-sold it back in 1995]...the Dirty Harry 6 inch killer!

I read up on the S&W 686 and everything seems to point to it being an expensive wheel gun. Since I have owned several Ruger and S&W firearms over several years [revolver and semi autos], my 1st choice would be the S&W either 686 or the 19 in the .357 caliber. The Ruger would be my 2nd choice. If you can get the GP100 for under $400 dollars....grab it and run like Hell!

'Sides...I like the look of Walnut on the factory S&W wood grips or the inlaid wood panels of the GP100 and how well the 4 inch barrel/frame carries in a black leather holster on the hip!....YUMMY
